Cheap and Good Hosting in India

September 23rd, 2007 · 3 Comments

Hosterio offers reseller hosting in India at very competitive rates. For example, the smallest package is only just $11.08 per year. You get complete cPanel access and a lot more. The smallest hosting account is good for a blog, since space is limited to 20MB. My blog, for example, uses not more than 4 MB of disk space, so far. Hosterio also offers website design services, which covers the entire spectrum of design services. I don’t know what the rates are, but if the hosting rates are anything to go by, they must be affordable for small businesses and individuals too.

If you have more than one domain - it is not unusual for one person to have more than one blog, each dealing with a separate topic, then you might want to check out Hosterio’s multi domain hosting offers. For $100 a year, you can have up to 7 domains hosted on the same account. for $37.77 more per year, you can get the privilege of hosting unlimited domains/sites on the same account. These are powered by cPanel too, which makes managing the sites a breeze. If most of your visitors are from India, or you expect that to be the case, then a server in India would be much better than a server in Europe or the United States. This will provide you lower latencies and delays. Until recently, however, I had been unable to find a host who offers reasonable rates for hosting in India.

Noureen DeWulf: Red Hot Indian

May 14th, 2007 · 4 Comments

Noureen DeWulf is the hot hot hot lady in Ocean’s Thirteen. It is said that she is part Indian, as in East Indian. Man does she look hot.
Noureen DeWulf

Here’s some more pics of Noureen DeWulf.

Here’s what Noureen’s got to say about being Indian:

Well, my parents are from Pune, India although I was born here in the US. I have a strong sense of my Indian culture, I can speak Hindi ,Gujrati ,and Urdu and I cook Indian food! I am proud of my background, I love being Indian. I love playing Indian roles Both dramatic and comedic ones. People ask me a lot if I get tired of playing ethnic characters, they ask me if I want to move away from it, but the ironic truth is, when I play an ethnic character I feel fulfilled on a personal level. I love my heritage both as someone who grew up as a Muslim and as an Indian—it’s part of who I am and I would never deny it.

What is it about South-east asian women that tickles my bone? I will never know. I wish there were more of them in mainstream hollywood. So too Lebanese and Middle-eastern women. Noureen DeWulf is definitely here to stay for a while. I wish I could see her in more movies. Someone please give Noureen an Oscar, so we can see her around more :)

India’s shopkeepers brace for Wal-Mart

January 9th, 2007 · No Comments

Walmart’s Entry to India should NOT be smooth, and hopefully, there should be no Walmart in India, ever. The reason I say this is, unlike in the US, employment and livelihood is a lifelong commitment for most. In the US, if you lose your job which was flipping burgers, you can move on to trimming lawns - not so in India.

If you want to be a waiter, you start at a young age, clean tables, and keep doing so till you get that waiter’s job, and then you hope to remain a waiter till you die. If you are puzzled at why this is so, just think “specialization” and “population pressure”. If Walmart ever steps into India, it will be the end for so many small businesses and shop owners and their employees - it is unthinkable. Walmart might make HUGE profits but every cent of that profit will be at the cost of the local economy and I don’t believe a single cent of the profit will go to India - India will gain nothing, absolutely.

Most Indians are complacent now (See excerpt from an article below), but that just reminds one of when the British East India Co. came to India to “do business” and ended up ruling the subcontinent for a couple of centuries!

India’s 40 million shopkeepers brace for Wal-Mart effect | csmonitor.com

This is most shopkeepers’ perception of Wal-Mart: Western-style glitz at Western prices. It begets disquiet, but not panic. The local market will continue to survive because it has always been cheaper, they say. But when he is informed that Wal-Mart’s philosophy is to sell large volumes at the lowest prices, Mr. Bhatia’s countenance drops.

Indian Athlete Fails Gender Test

December 20th, 2006 · 1 Comment

How does one fail a gender test? And really, how hard could it be to assess someone’s gender? I agree if could be more challenging if the doctor cannot pull the patient’s pants down, but since we all know doctors can do that, how hard can it be?

Santhi Soundararajan, an erstwhile female athlete who was declared the best athlete at an Indian championship failed a gender test in Doha. (Since the award was for “best athlete”, she should get to keep it right, irrespective of whether or not she is female?)

KP Mohan, a sports journalist, said athletes were usually examined by a team of doctors, including a gynaecologist, endocrinologist and psychologist, and put through physical and clinical examinations during a gender test.

And here’s how ridiculous it is - she passed the gender test at the Asian track and field championship last year before winning a gold medal. I tell you, there is something non-standard with these tests. I would love to learn why the heck its so hard to find someone’s gender!
